Dr. Madan Kumar Jha is presently Professor (HAG), Head of the Agricultural and Food Engineering Department, and Head of the Center for Rural Development and Innovative Sustainable Technology at IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal, with a specialty in “Groundwater Hydrology”. He has been awarded several scholastic awards/honors, and international and national scholarships, including prestigious Humboldt and JSPS Fellowships . Among several awards and honors, he has received “Institute Chair Professor Award-2022” by IIT Kharagpur, “Eminent Water Resources Scientist Award” by IWRS, IIT Roorkee, and “Smt Savitri Chadha Memorial INC-IAH Award for Excellence in Groundwater Science”.
Also, he has been featured as one of the Global Top 2% Scientists consecutively in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Currently, he is an Editor of the prestigious “Water Resources Research” journal, and EBM/Associate Editor of “Scientific Reports”. He has to his credit 155 papers in peer-reviewed international and national journals, 5 books, 24 book chapters, 10 technical reports/bulletins, and 114 papers in international/national conferences. He has also developed 7 indigenous, costeffective and user-friendly professional software. Prof. Jha is a Fellow of NAAS, Fellow of IEI; Fellow of IAH, Fellow of ISH, Fellow of IWRS, and Fellow of ISAE. He is also a life member of CIGR, AAAE, and several national associations/societies as well as a regular member of salient international associations such as IAH, AGU, IWA, IAHR, EWRA, and IAHS.. Prof. Jha’s applied research focuses on the sustainable management of water and land resources, which directly contributes to 12 Sustainable Development Goals (i.e., SDGs 1 to 4, 6 to 9, 11, and 13 to 15) that are directly related to water.
