BRIEF PROFILE+
Mr. Jain was born on 17 January 1916 in Delhi, Mr. S.K. Jain did C.E.(Hons.) from Thomson College of Civil Engineering, Roorkee in 1936. He joined the UP Irrigation Department in 1939, and rose to the rank of Chief Engineer in 1965, after working in different capacities. In 1967 he was appointed Chairman, UP State Electricity Board. In March 1969, he came to the Centre on deputation as Member, Water and Power Commission. In March 1970, he was elevated to the Office of Chairman, Central Water and Power Commission, the highest technical engineering post in the field of irrigation and power in the country, and was conferred the status of Ex. Officio Secretary to the Government of India in February 1973. He retired on 17th January 1974. Mr. Jain visited UK, USA and other European countries a number of times and his last vist to UK was in June 1971 when he went there to attend the IEC Meeting of ICID as its Vice President. Mr. Jain was the President of Central Board of Irrigation and Power in the year 1970 and Vice President of ICID from 1970-1973. Mr. Jain is a member of the Indian Geo-technical Soceity, and fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and Indian Standard Institute. In January 1963, he was awarded "Padma Sri" for personal merit and commendable work on the design and construction of Rihand Dam.
