Mr. Jose Osvaldo Pontes, a Civil and Electro-technic Engineer, is the General Director of the National Department of Works Against the Droughts since 1974. Previously he occupied important public offices in the federal and State specialized agencies. Active participant of technical studies, congresses, symposia and meetings, especially in the field of irrigation and drainage. In June 1981 he was elected President of the Brazilian National Committee, ICID. He was Vice President of ICID from 1982-1985.
