BRIEF PROFILE+
Dr. Romita was born in Torino (Italy) on July 27, 1924. He obtained a B.Sc. degree in Civil Enginering at the University of Rome in 1947. In 1954 he obtained a Ph.D. in Hydraulics from the Polytechnic of Milano. In 1949 and 1950 he followed lessons and seminars and carried out research in many universities and Hydraulics Laboratories in the USA. He was Director of the Institute of Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Milano, which is responsible for the organization of all the courses given by the University of Milano in the field of water management, soil conservation, irrigation and drainage. He was member of ITAL-IC ID, Italian Association for Rural Engineering, Italian Hydrotechnical Associations, Italian Association for Sanitary Engineering, International Association for Hydraulic Research. He was in political activity in Italy. He was member of the Italian Parliament since 1958 and has been many times member of the Italian Government as Under Secretary for Public Works and for Education and as Minister for Scientific Research. He was also Minister for Regional Affairs. He was Vice President of ICID from 1984-1987.
