Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Abu-Zeid

Dr. Abu-Zeid was born on 29 July 1935, took B.Sc. Civil Engineering from the Cairo University, and M.Sc. (Irrigation) in 1960 and Ph.D. from the California University in 1962. He is a fellow of the Economic Development Institute, IBRD. Dr. Abu-Zeid occupied various research positions in the Ministry of Irrigation till he became the Director of the Water Distribution and Irrigation Systems Research Institute. He was Chairman of the Water Research Centre which controls eleven research institutes involved in different fields of irrigation water and its management. He has contributed a large number of papers through his scientific research. In 1986 he was awarded a First Class Medal of Honor by the H.E. President of the Republic of Egypt for his valuable contribution to maximizing the benefits from the precious drop of water. He was Vice President of ICID from 1986-1989.
